TEXTURING PROP PROJECT
The Middle Ages covered a large part of human history, with dark periods but also increasing innovation in many areas. Warfare has always been one of those, with many pioneering developments.
The purpose of the project was to recreate a historical helmet, specifically the visored barbuta, a highly versatile design that offered several wearing options and intricate details.

Initially, I crafted a pristine helmet straight from the blacksmith's forge, but the concept of placing it within a museum environment inspired a shift towards an aged and rusty appearance, which ultimately enhanced its authenticity.
This decision required meticulous work, both in the refinement of the high-poly model and in the texturing. One of the most important and challenging aspects was to create a convincing representation of the peeling paint on the visor, which not only added vibrancy but also enhanced the overall realism of the piece.
The visor can be opened in two different ways, either by rotating it upwards or by pulling a pin on the right side of the helmet, which allows the helmet to rotate sideways. Pulling the pins on either side of the helmet would remove the visor completely.
